Same-Day Emergency Treatment in Sarasota
In most cases, we can treat emergencies either the same day you call or within 24 hours. Some emergencies require immediate treatment (for instance, when a tooth is knocked out of place), so we will ask you questions to determine the nature of your emergency and whether you are in pain.
All you have to do is give us a call, and we’ll ask a few questions to determine how quickly you need to be seen. If you are in pain, we will do our very best to get you in right away. Sometimes, an emergency will require a visit to make you comfortable and stabilize the tooth, and then we’ll ask you to return for additional treatment that will protect your tooth in the long run.
How to Tell if You Need a Same-Day Emergency Dentist
Are you experiencing a dental emergency in Sarasota? Sometimes it's hard to tell. A good rule of thumb is when you're in doubt, contact your team at Sarasota Dental Arts to assess your situation and give you further instruction.
When an emergency happens, prompt treatment is often the difference between simple, conservative treatments and the need for more complex care. We always want to provide you with the most straightforward treatment possible to relieve your discomfort and restore the health of your tooth.
Dr. Aygen will evaluate your needs, and if we do need to see you, we will make every effort to schedule you the same day. If you don't need immediate treatment, we can often give you instructions over the phone on handling your situation at home. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
Emergency Dental Services We Offer
If you aren’t sure whether the situation you are experiencing is an emergency, that’s okay. Just give us a call, and we will ask you some questions. No concern is ever silly, and we never want you to suffer in silence because you aren’t sure!
Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat here at our Sarasota dental office include:
- Investigate and treat the source of your pain
- Treat infections and abscesses of the teeth and gums
- Recement or replace crowns and bridges
- Fill cracked teeth
- Address trauma to the soft tissues (lips, gums, tongue) and falls that injure the mouth
- Remove foreign objects stuck between teeth or in the gums
- Fix broken appliances, restorations, or dentures
We will provide you with recommendations to help you stay more comfortable until we can see you. If you have lost a tooth or your tooth has broken, find the broken pieces, and keep them in a container of milk, saline, or even your own saliva. We may be able to replace or reattach the tooth!
We Offer Emergency Dental Care for Snowbirds
We are happy to see snowbirds here in our Sarasota dental office! We know that many of our neighbors only live here for part of the year, and that’s perfectly fine! We are happy to provide you with care while you are down here in Florida, and we can even coordinate care with your regular dentist up north.
Remember that Sarasota Dental Arts is your home for general and emergency dentistry whenever you're visiting Sarasota, FL.

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
Many dental emergencies are obvious, partially because they occur because of a specific event, or because you're likely to be experiencing a great deal of pain. The most important thing to remember during an emergency is that it's best handled quickly, and by a professional! For those dental concerns that might not be obvious, it's always best to make sure that you are visiting your dentist for regular cleanings and exams to ensure that you stay healthy.
Some common dental emergencies to be aware of are:
- A cracked or fractured tooth
- A tooth knocked loose or completely out
- Constant dental pain
- Injuries to your soft tissues or gums
- Broken or lost dental restorations

What NOT to Do in a Dental Emergency
As frustrating, painful, and even scary as a dental emergency can be, the number one rule is this:
Stay calm and call our office right away. We usually have same-day appointments available, so we can get you in and help you feel better fast. In the meantime, we can give you advice to help you stay comfortable until you can get to our dental office.
We know that several outdated myths are floating around regarding how to treat a dental emergency, but these are, unfortunately, often the worst advice.
If you are experiencing an emergency, please don’t do any of these things:
- Ignore the pain and hope it goes away. Pain that goes away could indicate that the nerve is dead, which will require more extensive treatment soon.
- Put aspirin on your tooth. While taking over-the-counter pain medication like aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil), or acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help make you more comfortable, applying aspirin directly to the painful spot can actually cause more damage. A topical pain reliever like Orajel could be helpful, though!
- Pull your own tooth. Not many people will attempt this, but don’t assume that we can’t save the tooth or that pulling it will solve the pain. Let us take a look instead!
If your tooth hurts, your gums are swollen, or you have an injury, please call Sarasota Dental Arts quickly so we can help you feel like yourself again!
